Be Different

Acceptance! It’s the one thing we demand for ourselves and are least likely to give to others! Everything is cool until someone thinks outside the box, then all hell breaks loose!

I’m proud to be an outside the box thinker not just for the sake of being rebellious but just look at the mess all the so-called normal folks have gotten us into.

Say it loud, “I’m different and I’m proud!

Burlesque Q & A with Charlotte La Ariagne

Burlesque Q & A with Charlotte La Ariagne

Lilith:how long have you been performing Burlesque?

Charlotte : I have been performing burlesque for 2 years.

Lilith: What inspired you to start Ibbp International black burlesque performers?

Charlotte: I started IBBP because the city that I’m in, Detroit is very segregated. The White troupes her are predominantly white and they rarely included Black performers. When I started researching burlesque performers, II noticed I had to search for Black ones. There were plenty of them, they just weren’t being recognized. There were a few organizations like BGB and Jeezy’s Juke Joint that I could watch and relate to and I appreciated them for having the balls to say “Hey you’re underselling Black performers, we’ll do our own thing”. I started IBBP because I noticed that injustice Internationally and I wanted to bring Black Burly Q performers from all over the world together.

Lilith :What is it like for you as a performer?

Charlotte:I don’t really consider myself a performer. It’s not what I do. I produce shows that I happen to perform in. I never perform separately from that. I would say that because I control what’s going on in the show, It’s easy but if I was an independent artist, I imagine it would be more difficult.

Lilith: So where do you see yourself a year from now?

Charlotte :A year from now, I will be traveling gathering IBBPs and getting them together for awesome shows.

Lilith:What can the world expect from you in the future?

Charlotte :The world will see me as a humanitarian and philanthropist in the future. I would recommend Burlesque Bitch, It allows anyone to add their bios and shows for free.

Lilith:who are your favorite burlesque performers and how did they inspire you?

Charlotte :There are alot… Foxxy Tann, Bunny VanDoren, Alotta Boutte, Dorian Faust, Geez Loueez, and Delysia LaChatte for starters. I love them for the same reasons: They push the envelope, they all have a comedic irony to their performances, and the are all undeniably comfortable in their skin. They inspire me to add more theater into my performances.

Lilith:What is your favorite style of burlesque ?

Charlotte:Comedy. It’s so easy to be a sexpot.

Lilith: what advice would you give to a novice performer?

Charlotte: Idk. I’m a novice myself. lol. I would say… save your money, have an asset of your body that you’d like to showcase in performances, and stand your ground when it comes to pay but don’t be a diva about it.

My lovely fans and supporters

Good afternoon my lovelies!

With a new year, I’ve decided a new direction for my blog would be a fantastic idea! I originally created my blog as a form of communicating to convey what’s going on in my life, personally and professionally, as well as some advice to do with pinup and burlesque. My new direction will be embodying all my passions; burlesque, pinup, vintage lifestyle, fashion, performing, and every else that inspires me! I will posting up reviews on fashion, destinations, shows, and more. Include details about my shows, and photo shoots. Post up my usual advice, and so very much more!

Here’s to a year full of exciting new things!

More updates coming soon!

What is Burlesque?

The inevitable question everyone asks is- what is Burlesque? Directly translated, Burlesque means “in an upside down style”. Burlesque does just that, it turns societies’ opinions on their heads.
Burlesque usually incorporates dancing girls, variety acts, boisterous Singers, Vaudevillian magic and specialty acts. Think vintage glamour, corsets, feather boas, pasties and fascinators. Movies like Moulin Rouge made Burlesque jump into the 21st Century, but this time-honored art form has been around since the early 18th Century across Europe and America.
People are conflicted about Burlesque’s more risque origins, as it relates to what is now called Strip Tease. Burlesque today is not what you would find in the strip clubs, but rather a classier and cheeky version of this entertainment, where the focus is on what you are hiding rather than what is being revealed. Artistes wear glamorous and lush costumes, use mood appropriate music, and perform acts with a satirical and saucy edge.
Over the years, Burlesque has become multi-faceted, with sub-genres such as Neo-Burlesque becoming a popular source of bawdy entertainment around the world. The common factor is always the parody and cheeky comedy associated with this theatrical entertainment. A few well known Burlesque Gypsy rose Lee,Betty Paige Sally Rand,Josephine baker.
